  • PC Gaming Hardware Forecast to Reach $27 Billion in 2010

    Jon Peddie Research (JPR), the industry's research and consulting firm for graphics and multimedia, today announced the market forecast for PC gaming hardware, and the results are better than previously expected.

    The worldwide PC gaming hardware market (systems, accessories, and upgrades) is forecasted to gain $1.2 billion for 2009, which is a 5.9% increase versus 2008 (from $20.07 to $21.26 billion). The increase is due to higher than anticipated consumer demand for Enthusiast, Performance, and Mainstream hardware influenced by the ability to play video games ranging from casual to hardcore simulations.

    iEntertainment Network today announced the fast-flying excitement of World War II aerial combat comes to life in Dogfights, the latest release in the successful WarBirds series. Dogfights, a single-player game, takes flight in January on PC and Mac with realistic and adrenaline-pumping missions for the bravest of gamers.

    Gamers choose one of three levels of pilot expertise: Rookie, Pilot, or the highly skilled Ace. They can select among 100 historically accurate aircraft to meet an armada of incoming aircraft in over 40 combat mission combinations. With its dynamic game engine, no two air battles will ever be the same.   • Warhammer 40K Film Details Announced

    Here is some news that will surely make more than a few 40K fans weep with joy. The movie news site QuietEarth.com is reporting that a Warhammer 40K movie is in the works!  Entitled ULTRAMARINES, this film will be directed by Martyn Pick, with a script written by the primarch himself, Dan Abnett.

  • VIP Beta for R.U.S.E. Starts Soon

    Today Ubisoft announced that on November 30, 2009, the R.U.S.E. extended multiplayer VIP beta for PC will be available for installation to selected participants worldwide.

    VIP beta content, which will initially include two factions (US and Germany), three maps and a chance for players to experience multiplayer features, will be updated on an ongoing basis throughout the beta time-frame with new content including four additional factions (USSR, France, Italy and UK), more maps and more game modes.

    The VIP beta, designed for a limited number of players to get the full R.U.S.E. gameplay experience, will be available for download and installation on Steam. A limited number of codes are being distributed on different partner websites worldwide.

    Activision Blizzard announced today that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 continues to shatter theatrical box office and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell through in dollars. The biggest entertainment launch in history set a new worldwide estimated five-day sell-through record of approximately $550 million, according to internal Activision estimates.

    Modern Warfare 2's launch beat all previous first-and five-day entertainment industry box office, book and video game sell-through records*:

    - The largest reported five-day opening worldwide box office gross figures, held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($394 million)
    - The largest reported five-day opening domestic box office gross figures, held by The Dark Knight ($203.8 million)

  • Ubisoft Launches UPlay with Assassin’s Creed II

    Ubisoft announced today that players of Assassin's Creed II on the PlayStation3 system and Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will be able to use the in-game interface to connect directly to the Uplay beta. Uplay will also be available for Assassin's Creed II PC at launch.

    Uplay is Ubisoft's online destination where gamers are at the center of a connected gaming universe that has been developed around four primary services: Uplay Win, Uplay Help, Uplay Share and Uplay Shop. The Uplay Beta is launching with Uplay Win.

     
  • Shattered Horizon "Moonrise" Content Pack Announced

    Futuremark Games Studio today revealed plans for the first content pack for Shattered Horizon, their PC exclusive multiplayer first-person shooter. The "Moonrise" pack, which will be free to all players, will include four new levels effectively doubling the number of levels in the game.

    In Shattered Horizon, a catastrophic explosion on the Moon has filled near-Earth space with billions of tons of rocky debris. Teams of players fight in zero gravity to control the limited supplies that mean the difference between survival and death in the cold of space. The Moonrise content pack includes four new levels set around the shattered Moon, taking the fight deeper into space and showing a new side to the conflict.

     
  • Uforia Launches Closed Beta 3 for Mercenary Wars

    Uforia, a new online game publisher specializing in massively multiplayer online games, today announced its third closed beta test for it's highly-anticipated online modern warfare first person shooter Mercenary Wars. The Closed Beta test starts November 16th at 5 PM PST and runs through November 19th 5 PM PST. The third beta test will give new players a look at all the new content including new maps, weapons, new cash shop and an anti-hack system.     I don't know what CCP is doing these days. I'm not sure they know, either.

    Check out this thread asking whether the massive supercapital nerf was intentional. At first, most people assumed this was some kind of bug on the test server, but it has now been confirmed an an intentional pre-nerf. A very large one, I might add.
