What Does Worthless Really Mean?

Did you know that GameSquad has an active blogging community?  Well, we do!  You will find blogs that cover everything from boardgames to the latest in PC gaming.  Take a look, it will be time well spent!

One of our blogs is Michael Dorosh’s Tactical Wargamer, a blog dedicated to casting “light on the brief and ongoing history of commercial tactical board wargaming, its future, and the lessons and impacts it has had, can have and is having on other gamers.”  His latest entry asks the provactive question “Is There Really Such A Thing As a Worthless Product?”

“We’ve all heard the same old maxims about “buyer beware” and I don’t think one needs to repeat them here. I do think, however, all the discussion of the value of the products has overlooked one basic premise – the notion that all products make up a part of a greater aggregate. My website and research has been focused on looking at tactical wargaming as an entity to itself, and from that perspective, each game, each scenario, each publisher, can be seen to have brought something unique to the history of the medium. I'm not yet willing to say that is true with Glory & Grief, but it would be unusual for a product to truly have contributed absolutely nothing or be one hundred percent valueless. Not impossible, but unusual. Sometimes, the value comes in unexpected ways....”

I'm impressed by the quality of the blogs

I always used to think "blogs" were just a fad, but there are really some good ones on gamesquad; comparable to some of the best magazine article offerings in the golden age of gaming magazines. Scott Tortorice's regular blog is, of course, a good bet for "chess" talk but also PC gaming. I really liked King Billy's talk about his newly built gaming room and he is now working on a series of videos that will serve as an introduction to board gaming. I don't want to start listing too many others for fear of leaving others out. Chelco's and rindis are two others that stand out off the top of my head though. With the decline in wargaming magazines in recent years, it's nice to see a balance is being struck with online offerings and that talented writers are taking the time to come forward and put words into organized form.
