New screens showing off the modern game engine used in The Witcher 2 have appeared on the Web. Titled "Assassins of Kings" the sequel features a "mature storyline defining new standards for thought-provoking, non-linear game narration." The combat system will also get an overhaul from the original.

On what The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will bring to the table, developer CD Projekt says the game will offer a "captivating story, dynamic combat system, beautiful graphics, and everything else that made the original Witcher such a great game are now executed in a much more advanced and sophisticated way." Sounds good to us. Bring it on!

The game will reportedly be released for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as well as PC, but don't expect the game too soon as CD Project says the game still doesn't have a publisher.

You can find more information on the official The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Web site.

Some concept art to keep you busySome concept art to keep you busy

Square Enix has announced it will be publishing the latest installment of the Dungeon Siege series to PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Originally developed by Chris Taylor, this time around Obsidion Entertainment will be the developer with input from Taylor and Gas Powered Games. Obsidian is the developer responsible for Alpha Protocol and Fallout New Vegas.

"It has been a great pleasure to collaborate with Obsidian," GPG founder and Dungeon Siege designer Chris Taylor said in the announcement. "They are a very talented developer who really knows what it takes to build a deep and engaging RPG experience, and I can't think of a better group to continue the Dungeon Siege series."

Dungeon Siege was a very innovative title with addictive gameplay. It will be interesting to see what direction Obsidian takes the series. While we wait on that, here are some concept screens to chew on.

Torn asunder, the delicate balance of power between the kingdom of Ehb's powerful factions has fallen apart. As one of the few remaining members of the disgraced protectors of the land, the 10th Legion, it is up to you to rebuild the once great Legion and stop Ehb from falling into darkness. Joined by a group of unique companions, you will travel through the striking land of Ehb defeating all manner of villains and beasts through a combination of heroic abilities, screen shaking magic and pure cunning.

Some New Screenies from the Apocalypse

Here’s a game that has fallen off my radar (I blame the EMP): Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout 3 took me by surprise as I never played any of the originals and didn’t know what to expect. Even though FO3 wasn’t as much of a hardcore survivalist experience as I was hoping it would be, it nonetheless proved to be a well executed game with an addicting 1950’s post-apocalyptic environment that made the game very engaging. Add in some enjoyable DLC, and Fallout 3 proved to be money well spent.

Coming later this year (Fall 2010), Fallout: New Vegas will be Obsidian’s attempt to add their own radioactive spin on the Fallout Franchise. Will they be able to improve on the Nuka Cola formula? Only time will tell, but these screenshots certainly look promising.

‘Dragon Age: Awakenings’ Awakes

Needless to say, I have yet to even mine a tenth of all that Dragon Age: Origins offers. There’s just too much to do and experience, especially in the character creation department! So, while everyone is now busily playing Awakenings, the first expansion for Bioware’s RPG epic, I am busily working my way through the base game as I try to catch up with everyone else. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.

But for those of you who successfully glued yourself in front of your computer and experienced everything Ferelden had to offer, you are probably quite happy with the latest expansion that seems to offer quite a bit of new content:

My Own Burn Notice

One of 2010’s most intriguing games is Obsidian Entertainment’s Alpha Protocol. This game will put the player in the no-squeak shoes of a modern day spy who must stop an “international catastrophe” from occurring. Similar to USA Network’s excellent Burn Notice (if you’re not watching it, what are you waiting for?!? Sheesh!), the player must go rogue and work the international espionage system to get the answers he needs and stop the nefarious plot before it is too late. Promising a nice dose of role playing, along with plenty of action enhanced by all the cool gadgets and weaponry that goes with spycraft, Alpha Protocol sort of reminds me of the espionage equivalent of Mass Effect.

I am really looking forward to this game. I haven’t played a good spy game since…well Spy vs. Spy back on the 8-bit machines. When you stop and think about it, it’s a clear shame because espionage would seem to be a natural setting for conflict-based gaming. Even on the Atari 800XL, there was nothing as sweet as laying a deviously clever trap for the black spy (I always played the good spy) and laughing with joy when it was sprung with all its malice.
